BRAESTEADS FARM

PATTERDALE

BRAESTEADS FARM is a traditional fell beef and sheep farm in the Grisedale valley near the village of Patterdale. Paul Renison works full time on the farm with the help of a part time employee and shepherding contractors.

The farm is overshadowed by Dollywagon Pike and St Sunday’s Crag and the sheep flock grazes the Helvellyn range which rises to over 3000 feet.

HISTORY

Braesteads Farm is an amalgamation of two farms – How Elm Farm which is now used to house cattle and Braesteads itself. The farm was originally part of the Marshall Estate, which included Patterdale Hall and several other farms in and around Patterdale. The farmhouse dates from the early 19th century.

Paul Renison has farmed at Braesteads since 2002 on behalf of the Scott family.
